FIRST PROJECT: The Name Page
PART 1: Create a New Document
Open Adobe Illustrator

Choose “Print” from the Menu Window
Change “Points” to “Inches”
Make sure the measurements show: Width: 8.5 and Height: 11
Choose Orientation: “Portrait”
Click “Create”
You should have a regular page of paper
PART 2: Typing and Setting Up your Name
Look for the Tool Box on the Left of the page
Choose the “T” (Type T) Tool
Put your “Caps Lock” on
Type the name you want me to use for you in class.
Change to the “Selection (V)” Tool
The Type will now have a little box around it with some corner boxes
This means your Name / Type is Selected and we’ll do most of the work with the Selection Tool
Change the Type / Font Size: Change “12 pt” to 72 (Use the Dropdown Arrow)
The Font should be bigger now.
Look at the Top of the page and see the word “Character”. See “Myriad Pro” is highlighted.
Click the Dropdown Arrow and choose a BOLD Font from that List.
Look at the Top of the Page and see the word “Paragraph” and the Icons to the right,
OR Click on the word “Paragraph” to see the Icons below it.
Choose the “Align Center” Icon
PART 3: Coloring the Type: FILL AND STROKE
Keep the Type Selected and look at the Top of the Page for 2 Squares: “FILL and STROKE”
Change the Color from the Solid Black Square: The “FILL”
Change or Add an Outline from the “STROKE” Square
FILL: Fills the Type or Shape with Color and STROKE will give it an Outline, or Border
PART 4: Moving the Type around the Page: SMART GUIDES
With the SELECTION Tool, Click on the Type/Name and move it down near to the bottom of the Page
Do NOT put it ON the Bottom – Just put it NEAR the Bottom, by about an Inch.
As you move it down, move it sideways and around – slowly – and
Notice that a PINK Line shoots out from the type. That’s the SMART GUIDE telling you
that the Type/Name is Centered on the Page.
Once the Type is Centered on the Page and about an Inch from the Bottom
